Life Changes For Baby and Me

Life Changes For Baby and Me

I have had this post on my mind for weeks and since my maternity pictures finally came in, I figured now was the time to get it out there!

Since becoming pregnant, I have researched and learned so much about all the poison out there in the world that we consume on the daily. Ok, I know poison is a bit dramatic but so many foods at the grocery store and products that we use everyday are NOT what they were when our parents were our age. I am, by no means an expert but I am looking to the experts and gradually making life changes for Baby and me! Ok, Ryan too 😜.

Life Changes: Food

Let’s start with food. One of my biggest resources for healthier living has been the Instagram Account @just.ingredients! Karalynne has so many helpful posts but the one that really got my attention was this one on cereal because I have been consuming so much of it during my pregnancy.

The problem is that genetically modified crops didn’t exist 30 years ago as they do now. Her point is that the frosted flakes we grew up on are not the same as the ones we buy at the store now. Even if they seem to taste the same.

This is when I started buying organic cereal and after trying a TON of them, Mom’s Best Cereals Honey Grahams won me over. Karalynne also suggests this Daves Killer Bread so we switched to that.

Of course, I am also paying attention to the produce I select using the EWG’s Dirty Dozen but I had never thought much more about needing to buy organic outside of fruits and veggies.

We are just at the beginning of the journey but let me know if you have any good organic food finds!

Life Changes: Products

If you haven’t downloaded the “Think Dirty” app get ready for your life to be changed/to be freaked out!

A simple search on the sunscreens and makeup products being sold in stores will show that many of them are HIGH on in toxins and many contain carcinogens (cancer-causing ingredients)!

After learning that, I signed up to be a Beauty Counter Consultant and started gradually switching to their products beginning with the sunscreen! Their products are the safest I have found on the market and I already loved their lip gloss!

In my first order, in addition to sunscreen, I also got the Rejuvenating Face Cleanser, Charcoal Cleansing Bar, and Lengthening Mascara. Honestly, I don’t love the mascara so the hunt continues for a healthier mascara. The skincare has been great though especially for my extremely hormone crazy skin.

If you want to switch to Beauty Counter products with me, click here to shop or shoot me an email!

Another big change I’ve made was throwing out ALL of our Tupperware and replacing it with glass reusable dishes like these! Of course, the tops are still plastic but if I am going to microwave them, I cover them with a paper towel or glass plate! Microwaving plastic can actually lead to a hormonal imbalance and much more!

Life Changes: Self-Care

I have already talked about how I have been seeing a therapist and occasionally a chiropractor in this blog post on self-care, but I also finally bit the bullet and got Invisalign! Obviously, it is more of a cosmetic change but it was always a goal of mine to fix my smile before I had a baby.

I actually had 2 sets of braces earlier in life but my teeth still continued to move over time because I was bad at wearing my retainers and never had a permanent retainer put in.

My crooked bottom teeth were honestly all I ever saw when looking at a picture of myself and after a dentist (dramatically) mentioned I could get gum disease if my teeth continued to crowd, I went to see Dr. Glass.

After 6 months of Invisalign, my teeth were straight again and you better believe I got a permanent retainer this time! And it honestly was not that painful!

In other self-care news, I have been keeping up facials with Emily Anne Esthetics every 6 to 8 weeks and I started getting Brazillian waxes with Waxed VB! I am so glad I started the waxes too because your girl cannot see down there anymore with this belly of mine 😂! Oh, and I have still been going to pilates twice a week and CycleBar once a week, gotta stay active!
