I am actually 20 weeks now (where does the time go?!). I bought my first pair of maternity jeans this week so I FIGURED now was a good time to get a blog post up about this HUGE new part of our lives 😉!
If you saw our Instagram announcement then you might have noticed that it is difficult to take photos with a dog and I mentioned this was a surprise! Oh boy, was it! We had actually booked a trip to visit our friend in Thailand a few days after Christmas and we were SO pumped!
A few days later (New Years Day, actually) I had the worst leg cramps. It felt like my thighs had run a marathon which, of course, they did nothing close lol. I also had regular cramps and was waiting on my period. I don’t usually have regular cramps though so this was strange too.
We celebrated the New Year with our families in the Outer Banks. On the ride home, after researching that leg cramps could be a sign of pregnancy, I told Ryan I thought we needed to pick up a test.
When we got home, I took the test and y’all…it turned immediately to positive! I called Ryan to come and look. We were going to be parents!
Honestly, shock was our first reaction for a good bit. Of course, we were also excited and thankful but I was on the pill at the time so we were not trying.
God is so cool though and His timing is so good. I think we would have always been a little chicken to start a family even though we wanted one. The timing now, couldn’t have been more perfect with family available to help and my work being in a good place.
So we canceled our trip to Thailand (they have Zika so pregnant women cannot travel there) and went to Hawaii instead! It was like a babymoon although I’d like another trip to the beach soon so I am saying it didn’t count 😉.
20 weeks in now, I can feel her move all around all the time and Ryan is the cutest about taking care of us and showing us love. We couldn’t feel any more excited and grateful 💕
Oh, and yes, I said, “HER!”

Ryan was so surprised! He really thought we were having a boy so he made ME think it was a boy. We even had a good boy name picked out! Now it’s back to the drawing board for the perfect girl name!
My best friend had come with me to the ultrasound a day prior and gotten the news from the doctor. She then stuffed the pinata for the reveal.
Sounded by 70 family and friends, it was without a doubt one of the coolest moments of my life!
We are so excited for the Baby Hanson journey and are praying for our sweet girl daily. I’ll do my best to keep y’all updated 😉besides her name, her nursery is next on the to-do list! She is getting my office so stay tuned!
