Thanks to Physicians Formula for sponsoring this post. All photos and opinions are authentically my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that keep Tilley’s lights on and creative juices flowing!
Ok y’all I am taking you behind the scenes of Tilley’s Threads today to answer one of my most asked questions: “How do you get your outfit photos?”
Contrary to popular belief, my husband is not constantly taking photos of me (although that would be extremely helpful). I actually partner with my photographer, Mary Jane Morris, once a month to shoot the many looks you see here on the blog.
(From Back to School in Black Post)
We photograph 4 to 7 looks a shoot and it may sound glamorous and super fun but it actually hard work! Especially in the heat we have been experiencing this year…
(From Flower Power with SheIn Post)
SOOOO, I am going to let you in on a few of my secrets to staying pretty during these marathon shoots…
Tip #1: Plan Ahead
(From Same Shorts, Different Year Post)
When I am shooting multiple looks, I make a list of exactly what each look should include. That way when I am changing (in my car I might add), I don’t forget to put on the specific earrings I picked to go with that outfit. Another changing tip via my girl Greta, bring a sheet or towel to tuck into your car window so you don’t flash anyone 😉
Tip #2: Keep that hair fluffed…
So chic right? My teasing brush never leaves my side. No matter if I am doing a shoot or going shopping with friends. It is a quick and easy way to make your hair look more voluminous and less dirty haha.
Tip #3: Easy to use makeup
Being #instaready is a lifestyle. You never know when you are going to find a turquoise wall to pose in front of or the perfect selfie lighting which is why I carry Physicians Formula bronzer. The compact has a built in brush and mirror for quick and easy application. Y’all probably think I am crazy but this stuff actually has what they call “InstaFilter Technology” that optimizes light reflection, blurs imperfections and visibly retextures skin! You know you want some…
They also have a contour stick that I love. I am not the best at makeup (I don’t even know how to apply eye shadow) but their #foolproof products are easy to use and I am so appreciative!
And guess what?! You can win a whole set of Physicians Formula #InstaReady products of your own by entering the giveaway below! Good luck!
I’m obsessed with that contour stick… SO easy!! And my hubs takes all of my photos but we have been thinking about incorporating a professional for a few shoots. It’s hard to justify the cost BUT I feel bad bossing him around so it might be worth it!

Having a photographer has been so helpful! I found mine by reaching out to a local college’s photography teacher to get a student photographer. I explained what I was willing to pay per hour and got a few responses back. After a few test shoots with different people, I choose Mary. She has since graduated but I am so glad I found her!
Girl yes! #2 is my jam. And those contour sticks look awesome. I totally wanna try them out!
How awesome! That sounds like great makeup to have with you on the go! It really is so important to plan out each outfit!
lots of love… Sydney

Girlfriend you give great tips for prepping for big blog photoshoots- something I definitely need to improve on! Haha!!

My fiance jokingly is constantly taking photos of me… some of them are not so pretty! Haha I love these tips!

Marathon shoots are such a good idea! I’ve been entertaining the idea, but I’m not quite sure where to start in terms of contract terms and pricing. If you’d be willing to share a little more with me about your agreement, I would be really interested to know! My email is keynotesfromkay@gmail.com. Professional photos are always so much better than the ones my boyfriend shoots, even with my DSLR and nice lenses, haha!
