Our Trip to the Florida Keys: Key West

Our Trip to the Florida Keys: Key West

Honestly, our trip to the Flordia Keys might be one of the BEST trips we’ve ever been on. We got to relax, be adventurous, AND eat some pretty amazing food.

Here is a little recap of all that we did in Key West (Key Largo to come) and some of the recommendations sent via Instagram! Want to see a play-by-play of the trip? Check it out here on my Instagram Highlight.

In route to the Flordia Keys…

Unfortunately, Covid is still a big part of everyones lives so we wanted to be as safe as possible. A few months prior to flying we got TSA pre-check and I am glad we did. It took our contact with others down exponentially.

We were also able to get a direct flight from Norfolk to Fort Lauderdale which was great because we didn’t need to change planes AND the flights were CHEAP. I’m talking less than $100 round trip cheap 🙌. Thank you Allegiant. We traveled Sunday through Thursday so we didn’t have to be away from the baby for too long.

We also brought our own wipes and meticulously cleaned what we touched including our rental car.

Oh, but one thing about Allegiant to note…their bag weight limit is 40lbs NOT 50lbs like other airlines. Learned that the hard way after I tried SO hard to keep our bag at 50lbs 😅.

Stop 1: Key West

Our Trip to the Florida Keys: Key West

We didn’t make it to Key West until about 9:30 pm on Sunday night so we went straight to our hotel, the Casa Marina (A Waldorf Astoria Resort), and passed out.

We choose this hotel too because actual beach space in Key West is limited. Definitely, do your hotel/Airbnb research if beach time is important to you.

I would also like to note that it was pretty kid-friendly! I would feel very comfortable coming back with Parker!

The next day we woke up early, rented bikes, and went to the MOST recommended spot in Key West…Blue Heaven!

It was worth the hype. The Lobster Omelette was to DIE for. The ambiance was great. We had to wait about 30 mins but it was worth it.

After brunch, we explored Duval Street on our bikes. We popped in a few boutiques, got some touristy swag, and then headed back to the hotel.

We had some rainy weather that afternoon but I have to say that the staff of Casa Marina was SO accommodating that we didn’t mind the rain. They certainly subscribe to the Chickfila mindset there.

The rain cleared after an hour and we watched the sunset at the resort then walked to a sushi dinner at Ambrosia.

Waking up on vacation is SO EASY for us (wish that was an all-the-time occurrence🙄) so the next morning we woke up and took a 15-minute bike ride across the island in search of bagels. We road through the coolest neighborhoods that I would LOVE to live in…#goals. We ended up at Goldman’s Bagel Deli and it was simple and delicious.

After a bit more bike riding it was time to pack up and head to our next destination. Although we were only there for 2 days, we really were able to do SO much. I do think 3 days would have been PERFECT though.

Here are some of the other spots my Instagram team suggested.

I hope to go back and try them ALL one day 😍! Have you tried any?
