My Newfound Love: Pilates

Lately, I have been reaching for more than the stars…I have been reaching for my toes!

Lol, all joking aside, pilates is my new favorite work out.

I’ve been going to one on one sessions at True Pilates in Virginia Beach for about 6 weeks now and have been so blown away by the method as a whole.

First off, it is definitely harder than I expected. I shake like a leaf most of the time but I can feel myself getting more flexible and stronger during each session.

What I find most interesting is the fact that my instructors know so much about my body and how to work on my specific issues. And I am not just talking about my want for a six pack.

I have terrible knees. They pop out of place a lot and its so SCARY! Turns out, most of my body hyper extends so they are helping me to strengthen the muscles around my joints so they won’t pop out any more ?. I never knew that was even possible!

Ever since my days of cheerleading (in high school and college) my muscles have been pretty bulky. Pilates is helping me to make those muscles longer rather than wider with small motions that make a big difference.

Here I am practicing my front balance control on the wunda chair in the above and below photos. I know I make it look easy but HOLY CRAP…it’s so hard!

I like the challenge though and love that each session I am doing something different on another one of their crazy contraptions (like the electric chair below).

Lastly, pilates has been great for my mental health. Taking an hour each week to focus on my body and breathing has been awesome. When I workout regularly, I am always listening to a podcast or making mental lists. Not at pilates, thankfully ?.

Pilates Thank you Mary and Brenna for opening my eyes to pilates!

Wow, pilates sounds great! I could use some ankle strengthening, haha. I had no idea they work on certain parts of your body like that!

Omg, I totally think I would love pilates if I was doing a private class! By myself though, I’ve discovered that I don’t like it 🙁 probably because there isn’t any motivation xD

This seems like so much fun! I’ve been wanting to check out pilates for a while now, but I’m too lazy to get my butt to the gym so I just do my HIIT workout at home instead. Def want to add pilates to my routine soon, though!

Pilates is my fave- it’s such a good toning exercise! I’ve been trying to get back into pilates reformers, but sometimes I’ll do some mat pilates at home (Blogilates). So glad you love it!
