This time of year always inspires me to do more for my community. I have been looking for a volunteer opportunity that was a good fit for me for months and I am excited to say that I found one…working with seniors! (and I don’t mean seniors in high school, lol)
I am always looking for #adulting tips so I can’t believe I didn’t think to talk to the people who have been “adulting” the longest!
I found a nursing home near me and will be helping out there twice a month. When I signed up, they gave me a tour and taught me so much about senior care. Did you know that when most people bring their loved one to a care facility, they are unprepared with the items they will need? For this reason, most nursing homes accept donations.
Sam’s Club has been my one stop shop for quality stuff at a great value, so I stopped in recently and picked up some Member’s Mark Female Maximum Absorbency Underwear to donate to the nursing home.
Knowing this small step would help someone transition into a huge life step down the road felt great. Sam’s Club really is your one-stop shop for all Caregiving needs. If you have an older loved one, make sure to check Member’s Mark and Sam’s Family Caregiving out.
In preparation for my nursing home volunteering, I reached out to a past high school teacher who teaches a silver sneakers exercise program to see if I could join her for a class.
She, and her class of seniors ranging in age from 50 to 97, welcomed me with open arms.
Shortly after, those arms were put to work. Honestly, I was breathing a little heavier by the end of the class. Those seniors are in shape! I plan to take some of these moves to my new friends at the nursing home.
Afterwards, I asked everyone to give me some wisdom on adulting before they left 😉
Here is what they said…
“Don’t cut the grass. If your husband knows you can do it, he never will.”
“Dance like no-one is watching.”
“Travel while you can. Experiences are far more valuable than money will ever be. Just make it work.”
“Find a role model, then beat them at their own game.”
And my personal favorite, “Work out, don’t rust out.”
Hilarious and helpful! I can’t wait to share more along my journey. If you want to volunteer at a nursing home like me, just leave me a comment below with your email address and I will help you get plugged in close to where you live 🙂
Oh my goodness love those little wisdom notes! especially the role model one! You really are making a difference for them!
Aww how sweet of you to help out! 🙂 Giving back is the best.
OMG I LOVE their quotes! Totally agree with the grass and travel one’s! HAHA! And that role model one just got me fired up to keep on going down the path I am on. So awesome for you to volunteer like this!
