Fitness over Fashion

I didn’t think it was possible y’all but I have lost 10 pounds and feel like a million bucks! It hasn’t been easy but it was necessary. After I left my job in May, I weighed 148 and at 5 foot 3, that was too much. I was always good about working out but I needed to make bigger changes than that…I needed to be committed to be healthy and so over the last 6 weeks that has been the goal. This may be a lengthy post but I wanted to share how I did it in case anyone else out there needs some encouragement or direction :).
The biggest thing for me was my diet. Contrary to popular belief, you can NOT eat whatever you want just because you work out. Womp womp. I cut out bread and alcohol (well, besides special occasions) and added tons of vegis and good grains.
Here is what a typical day worth of food looks like for me…
Breakfast: Plain oatmeal (the kind in the big tube) made with almond milk
Snack: Egg (after the gym)
Lunch: Sandwich made on Ezekiel Bread (no flour, found in the freezer section) with deli turkey, tomato, hot cherry pepper hoagie spread, spinach and avocado with cantaloupe on the side. Nom.
Snack: Almonds and an apple, basic.
Dinner: Kung Pao Chicken Zoodles, they’re my fave!

Of course I occasionally slip up (like when I had a nervous breakdown yesterday and had a slice of pizza…ok 2 slices) but I try to plan if I am going to eat something bad. Like if I want an ice cream cone then I will be good all week. I know in diets like Weight Watchers you can save points for that kind of thing but I decided against a diet plan because I wanted it to be more of a lifestyle change. I make good choices and don’t think twice now.

Then, of course, working out is a HUGE factor. I needed to add cardio into my life so I decided to go with the treadmill. I run as fast as I can for 2 minutes and then walk for 2 minutes and continue that pattern for 30 minutes total. Since doing this, I have upped my speed and now can go longer distances. I am still not a huge fan of running but I am a fan of the results.
I also love the Tone it Up Bikini Series. I bet using their full program would be so beneficial but I use their arm workout a lot with 5 pound weights and I have seen a big difference in my arms (which is one of my problem areas).
Like I said, this has been a lifestyle change. Moving in with my parents has made things easier because there is less temptation but that’s not to say that you can’t do it living with friends or your significant other! You may say, “But I love to go out with my friends for dinner! Well then, when you go get Mexican, skip the chips and order fajitas with corn tortillas (instead of flour) and no cheese or sour cream! Healthy choices, girl. Maybe you have to go to work early? Wake up earlier! I wake up with my mom at 5am a lot because she needs motivation. Get a partner to hold you accountable! There are no excuses. Looking good is a way better reward than a cookie…I think.
JK, it totally is 🙂
