Heart to Heart Vol. 5: The Circle Maker

It couldn’t be more fitting that I bring a book that I recently read to your attention the first week of the new year! This book is called “The Circe Maker” and it is by Mark Batterson and it was amazing!

It begins with the legend of the great circle maker, Honi. During the first century BC there was a terrible drought. It was so bad that everyone pretty much gave up on life and God…except Honi. Honi drew a circle on the ground and demanded rain from God and God made it rain. It was just a light rain though and Honi was not satisfied. He demanded, “Not for such rain have I prayed, but for rain that will fill cisterns, pits, and caverns.” Then God made it POUR which was too much for Honi and the people to bear so again Honi said, “Not for such rain have I prayed, but for rain of your favor, blessing and graciousness.”

(Bet Honi would love my commentary of his story lol)

This may sound like a silly story to you but it is one of confidence and specifics that the whole book spirals from.

Here is what I took away from The Circle Maker:

  1. Bold prayers honor God. The bigger your prayer the better. God is not small so why pray only small prayers. It is great to ask Him to bless your meal but glorify Him with your wildest dreams!
  2. If you don’t put yourself outside of your comfort zone, you’ll never expereince amazing moments. This is so true for when I decided to start my business. If I had stayed in my comfort zone and gotten a normal job I would have missed out on so much!
  3. Don’t be vague. When you are specific in your prayers and they come true, you can give Him the glory.
  4. More blessings, more problems. I talked about this saying in my last post because it really stuck with me. For example, a new home is such a blessing but good gracious does it come with issues! Know this with everything you ask and receive and remember to keep a good perspective. Life may get harder but that could be the best thing that ever happened to you!

In the spirit of these things I am starting to journal my prayers in 2017. Life gets so hectic that sometimes I can’t even remember what I asked God for that morning let alone three months ago. Journaling will allow me to look back and it will also make me spend specific time with Him.

I would put this book on my “must read” list. It doesn’t have the fame like the ones on my Christmas list (like the Fixer Upper book or Emily Ley’s new book) but it is certainly worth your time.

It however doesn’t replace reading the Bible which I also plan to do a better job tackling in 2017 with the help of “Women of the Word” by Jen Wilkin. I’ll let y’all know how it goes 😉
