Life Update: Our New Pumpkin…

Our little family is growing y’all! Meet our new pumpkin…

New pumpkin Bernedoodle

WE GOT A PUPPY! Y’all thought we were pregnant, didn’t you? Lol, not ready for that life yet!

This is Deacon and although I didn’t give birth to him, I feel like he is perfectly ours!

The hubs and I have been talking about getting a puppy for the LONGEST time but were too scared/nervous to pull the trigger. After months of looking at puppy pictures online, we found a litter last Friday and made the decision to go get him the following day! From Pennsylvania (we live in Virginia). In hurricane Matthew. Ahhh yes, we are in fact: crazy.

After a 5 hour drive in light rain (thank God), we arrived to Strasburg aka Amish Country!

Here is the farm where our boy was born and raised! The gentlemen that we got us from was Amish and so cool! I find it amazing that these people live off the land the way they do!

He is a Bernedoodle which is a mix of a Bernese Mountain dog and a poodle. The sweet momma (pictured below) had 7 pups and y’all…it was so hard to choose just one!

Isn’t she gorgeous?!

The moment that the hubs held little Deacon though, I knew it was meant to be!

So we put him in the car and headed home on our, what turned out to be, 6 hour journey home. It rained and was so windy but little Deacon didn’t cry once the whole ride home! Ryan and I really prepared ourselves for the worst: throwing up, barking, etc. But nope, he just sat in my lap and snuggled.

The poor pup was a tad flee infested though so as soon as we got back we gave him a bath with Dawn Dish soap…I had no idea it was safe for dogs but I called a vet and they confirmed! The next morning we took him to out local Banfield Pet Hospital (part of Petsmart) and they were amazing. We didn’t ever have an appointment but they were so accommodating and got Deacon all fixed up! (This is not an ad, I am just to thankful!)

The dog days…

We have only had him a few days but he already holds a huge place in our hearts. It has been quite the adjustment though. He is so smart and is already going to the potty outside exclusively, but the sleeping at night thing…eh, working on it.

Dog experts, please hit me with your knowledge! We need all the help we can get, lol!

Family pics comin’ at ya soon! Ahhhh!

What a sweet puppy! Can’t wait to meet Deacon. I had no idea that breed existed…his momma is a beautiful dog…love that pic”. We got Maddie the day after hurricane Isabel, so that is her middle name. Have fun!

To help train him while you guys aren’t home it’s always good to get a kennel/dog cage. It’s also best to put it near the front door maybe in the living room so he can see you guys leave and come home. Seeing you leave and come back helps train him to know you’ll always come back and he’ll be fine while you’re gone. It’s also good because it helps prevent him from getting into anything while you’re not home which is common in puppies with short attention spans. I did this with chara for about 3 – 6 months when she was a puppy. Now I can leave her out and she’s fine while I’m gone!
