Make it Monday: Paper Peonies

I went to the thrift store a couple of weeks ago and found a bunch of great stuff…some good books, cocktail glasses, etc. One of my finds brought about today’s “Make it Monday” post…I found a HUGE pack of tissue paper for $2.50. As so as I picked it up, I immediately imagined making paper flowers with it!

All I needed in addition to the paper was wire, floral tape and some scissors! I used this Martha Stuart tutorial to get started, made a few tweaks and this is how it went…
Step 1: Cut tissue paper in sections and then roll up each individual section.

Step 2: Cut the rolled up paper into a petal shape. Some I did with two humps like above and some I did with three.

Step 3: Use a small piece of yellow tissue paper cut halfway down to create fringe. Wrap around wire wrapped in floral tape. Secure bottom with floral tape so that fringe is facing upward.
Step 4: Take two petals at a time and bunch at the bottom. Secure to stem with more floral tape (and maybe some hot glue if you struggle with floral tape like I do).
Step 5: Repeat step 4, rotating around the center, until flower is the size you envision.
I made one small one and one larger one and they have made quite a great addition to my office bookshelf! I have to admit…they were time consuming, but definitely worth it.
