Wedding Wednesday: The Honeymoon Part 1

Welp, pretty much all wedding our wedding pictures have been shared but have no fear! Wedding Wednesday continues! Today I am sharing our honeymoon to Costa Rica but I have a lot more in store for the series so keep checking back in!
Our honeymoon was far from your generic honeymoon. Of course we flew in like a normal couple, but in order to get to our first resort, we have to white water raft there! With only 25 pounds of luggage each (I know, it was tough but I did it) we boarded a raft with our tour guide and took off down the Pacuare River.
It was an amazing experience! So, so much beauty I can’t even express and it was so exhilarating! After about an hour of rafting, we made it to our destination…The Pacuare Lodge. This picture above is the main house where we could go grab a drink or have a meal.
Upon our arrival, they greeted us with the most delicious tropical smoothie and proceeded to tell us the rules which mainly consisted of, don’t forget your flashlight. You see, there was hardly any electricity here so at night you needed your flashlight to see at night! Crazy, right?
Then we headed off to our room…or maybe I should call it a hut. Either way, it was gorgeous and the bed was so so comfy! It had everything…a hammock, an outdoor shower, it was heaven.
Our first night there we had dinner in the birds next which was high above the ground. We had to zip line there, IN THE DARK! It was a little scary, but so cool. We dined on delicious tuna tar tar, New York Strip and the best darn chocolate cake I ever had in my life.
The food there was impeccable. We have been to all inclusive places before where the food was…eh. Sometimes other countries age their meat differently than we do in the US or the food just all tastes the same by the end of the trip. That was not the case here. The Pacuare Lodge is an Eco resort and they take pride in having the freshest and most healthy ingredients.
Desayuno (or breakfast) was our favorite. Rice, beans, and eggs with corn tortillas is the breakfast of champions in my opinion. At every meal, they would bring you a iPad so you could choose what you wanted to eat for the next meal. They would also ask you want you wanted to do that afternoon…zip line…go for a hike…kayak? The organization blew my mind and made things so relaxing. It wasn’t like everything had to be precisely planned. You could just say, “I think we’ll go zip lining today,” and they would make it happen!
We had a BLAST zip lining! The tour guides were great and educated us about Costa Rica the whole way. This photo was taken with our gopro…that was the BEST wedding gift! I can’t wait to finish a clips reel for y’all.
We also got a couples massage one day and it was magical. The running river in the back made the perfect setting. They also use the same essential oils that I do which just reaffirmed how much I love and trust them.
We spent 3 nights and 4 days at the Pacuare Lodge and each day was more than I could have dreamed. It was as if time went slower there in the best sort of way. The people that worked there were the kindest, smartest, most genuine people. They took us on hikes, showed us waterfalls and taught us so much about the jungle. Louis Andres and Alvaro, y’all are awesome.
When it came time to leave, we had to go the way we came…white water rafting. I was really scared this time around though because the rapids leaving were much more intense. They taught us what to do it we fell out of the raft…I was not trying to break my leg for the rest of the honeymoon.
Luckily, I made it out alive and it was one of the best experiences. When the water was calm, we were able to get out and float along and when the water was rough you better believe we were paddling hard. Pura Vida.
I love to lay on the beach…I can do it for hours without moving. Although we did get some beach time at our next destination, I am so glad I married a man that helps me to be adventurous. The jungle of Costa Rica is an epic place and I probably wouldn’t have ever gone there without his ambition for seeing the world and doing cool things.
