Wedding Wednesday: Couples Portraits

Like any couple on their wedding day, we began our day separately. After getting ready, I anxiously awaited the second I would see him…his phone was completely dysfunctional that day so we weren’t even able to text! I knew it wouldn’t happen, but the story of Big leaving Carrie at the alter just kept flashing through my head…ahhh!

We chose to do a first look before the ceremony. Some of our friends and family were not huge fans of the idea but it made the day go so much smoother and being stress free and happy was my ultimate goal for both of us. Plus there is no way on this earth I could have waited any longer to see him! I needed to feel his embrace before the big leap down the aisle.

I felt antsy and excited as I approached him. When he turned around my heart melted. It melted even more when he handed me a letter he had written for me. Y’all. I can’t even bbbbbegin to tell you about this letter. He expressed more than I could have ever thought he felt for me in such an eloquent and beautiful way. I am a lucky girl…

He then read my letter to him, and we exchanged gifts. I gave him a Daniel Wellington watch that I had bought months ago (being the gift planner that I am) and he gave me this beautiful All Washed Up necklace with our wedding date on it.
Then it was time for pictures. It is so hard to choose which ones to put on here for y’all to see… I literally adore them all. Luckily I can make some pretty silly faces so that helped me narrow it down a little 😉

His suit was from Jos A Bank and his vest we had made by our amazing seamstress that also did my dress. I can’t find the exact suit online but this one is similar…I feel in love with his suit because of the brown buttons as well as the tiny brown stitching on the lapel. All the guys bought them during Jos A Bank’s buy 1 get 3 free sale which made them about 75% off each. Ties? Rented three days before from Men’s Warehouse…nothing like waiting till the last minute haha.

The ones of us laughing are my favorite…oh and this one from when we were sneaking off to the beach to take pics but I got hungry. Hello mini hamburgers and french fries. Thank heaven I didn’t get ketchup on my dress…my outfit details here.
The weather was a little windy on the beach that day but I don’t mind a little salt in my hair and sand in between my toes, so we hopped in the car and headed to the Kitty Hawk Pier.

This picture above is my absolute favorite from the entire day. I feel like it really embodys us as a couple.

This one is one of my favs too because we are windblown but so happy and carefree. I look at it and I can hear the jokes we whispered to each other in the exact moment.
Everyone always asks me, “Does it feel different to be married?” I think it does in the way that there is now more comfort in our relationship. I don’t worry about a day that I won’t have him. He is mine and I am his which is all I ever wanted…

First off, so beautiful, just gorgeous. I am so glad you shared that you did a first look! I want to do that on our wedding day as well, but many family and friends are discouraging me from doing it. Most popular I get is "don't you want the first time he sees you to be when you walking down the aisle, to see his emotions"… I feel we will still capture that emotion in a first look. do you agree?

Thank you so much! That is EXACTLY what my family said too but honestly, there is so much going on once you walk down the isle that you might not even fully focus on him until you get about halfway down. I know that is terrible to say but there are so many people smiling and waving at you and it is so distracting. Having the first look was something that he and I could share just the two of us. Not only did it make things go a thousand times smoother the day of (like taking pictures with the bridal party before too) but it was a moment that I will always remember. Just tell your photographer to get his face and you'll be golden 🙂
